MULTIMEDIA APPLICATION EFFICIENCY IN HIGH SCHOOL BIOLOGY TEACHING
Biology curricular contents for the third year of grammar school are found to be difficult for students because they are too voluminous for the designed number of teaching hours. That aside, the most difficult part of the curriculum is the part that deals with the biology of the development of living things (BDLT) which is presented in highly abstract terms. Since understanding the essence of life is of prime importance, it is necessary to devise a more efficient approach to understanding and acquisition of these concepts. The BDLT contents are particularly suitable for multimedia presentations. The paper presents the results of an experimental research on the efficiency of the application of multimedia in the elaboration of the theme Biology of the development of animals, contrasted to the traditional mode of lecturing. The experiment comprised the sample of 188 third-year students of two grammar schools in Novi Sad. The analysis of the final test and the re-test showed that the students in the experimental group, to whom the theme had been presented by the use of multimedia, acquired quantitatively and qualitatively higher knowledge than the students in the control group who had been taught in the traditional manner. The results achieved by the E - group suggest that multimedia should be used more in grammar schools in order to achieve a higher level of both the quantity and quality of students’ education in biology.

STRUCTURE AND LAYOUT OF A MODERN BLENDED SYSTEM FOR LEARNING PROGRAMME LANGUAGES IN HIGHER EDUCATION
The development of new computer technologies makes it possible to devise blended learning systems which combine two learning systems: traditional face-to-face learning in the classroom and a modern system of distance computer mediated learning. Electronic textbooks, virtual laboratories and simulations are the components that offer high flexibility and comfort to a learning system. Classroom and printed textbooks are still necessary components of any learning system since nothing can replace personal contacts, live discussions and use of existing literature in printed form. In this paper we present the structure and layout of a modern blended learning system, devised for learning programme languages. Basic elements of the system and its realization plan are described: from preparing teaching materials, programme environment for managing the process of learning and work strategies of the system; through performing the teaching/learning process and administrative work; to students’ knowledge assessment. and checking the quality of the system. The paper offers a brief description of all participants and activities included as well as the results of previous applications of the system.

EXAMINATTION OF MATHEMATICS KNOWLEDGE ACQUISITION OF STUDENTS WITH HEARING IMPAIRMENT
The specifities and development of the thinking process of deaf and partially deaf children are due primarily to the specifities of speech and its slower comprehension, which affects negatively the development of thinking of these students. The specifity of their mental development is especially reflected in the formation of numerous space and time concepts, which is why the formation of mathematical thinking in deaf children bears some specific features and importance, and which entails the need for paying special attention to students with hearing impairments in the teaching process. Our research is a part of a more comprehensive research aimed at determining the level of mathematical knowledge of students in the final years of lower and higher elementary education, in order to provide data and suggestions for curricular corrections. The results we obtained, which show lower levels of students’ acquisition in comparison to the norms, confirm our hypothesis that there are some specifities in the acquisition of mathematical knowledge among children with hearing impairments.

TEACHING AIDS IN MUSICAL LITERACY PEDAGOGY
The use of audio-visual and mnemo-technical devices in the musical literacy teaching process is an unavoidable part of methodological tools, aimed at enhancing students’ motivation and contributing to the elaboration and acquisition of the teaching contents. In the article we offer a short review of the history of the development of the teaching aids and mention some of the modern ones which are indispensable for a successful development of musicians. Among them, the most important role, undoubtedly, have two aids whose usage in the teaching process of musical literacy goes without saying - piano and blackboard. In recent times notable is an increasing use of electronic teaching aids which, due to poor equipment of musical schools, have not been and, as yet, are not used widely in Serbia.

HOW STUDENTS ASSESS IMPORTANCE OF GENERAL COMPETENCIES IN HIGHER EDUCATION
Quality insurance in higher education, defined by the Bologna Declaration, which has been applied in higher education in Serbia since 2007/08 academic year, is obtained by defining standards, competencies of graduate students and the outcomes of learning by the use of various teaching/learning methods. One of the aims of higher education in Serbia is acquisition of competencies. The development of the study programmes focused on competencies (general and specialist) enables the development of easily acquirable and compatible levels of education. Additionally, the language of competencies offers common ground for communication between different study areas. By applying an empirical approach, our research was aimed at establishing how the undergraduate students of the Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade and the Preschool Teachers’ College in Kikinda assess the importance of generic competencies for their future professions, and whether the teaching/learning methods used have any impact on their assessments. The results showed both similarities and differences in the students’ assessments of the importance and achievement in examined competencies, as well as of the level of the influence of the teaching/learning methods on the development of the competencies in these two study groups.

INITIAL EDUCATION, PROFILE AND ROLE OF VISUAL ARTS TEACHER
Among various aspects related to aesthetic education, doubtlessly one of the most important is - preparation, i.e. pre-service education of teachers of visual arts. The field of aesthetic education experienced huge changes in the approach and curriculum in the last two decades. Hence, the pre-service teachers’ curricula have to be dynamic and modern in order to train competent practitioners and participants in the educational process. Along with the changes of issues of interest and expectations within aesthetic education, simultaneous changes should be made in the programmes for arts teacher education. In order to provide a basis for necessary changes in the arts teachers’ education we analysed official documents of higher education institutions and compared and analysed the organization and the contents of the initial visual arts teacher education of Great Britain, Australia, Finland, Canada, Germany, and Serbia. The paper presents some parts of a more comprehensive comparative analysis concerning a few aspects of visual arts education.

PREPARING PARENTS FOR THE CHILD’S SCHOOL START
Starting schooling is a major developmental step/task not only for the child but also for their parents and family in which they grow up. Making this step expands the frame of the family/parental and the child’s functioning in social, emotional and cognitive sense. By selecting the approach of theory analysis, i.e. presenting an eco-systematic scientific approach and certain elements (concepts) of relevant theories in the field of psychology of family life (phases and transitions in family life cycles, a working model of parental functioning related to school, family curriculum, cooperation between family and school), the aim of the article is to offer a frame for their implementation into programmes for parents. These programmes might enhance the awareness and sensitivity of parents towards the nature of the long-term process which their child enters when starting school, regarding the decisions they will have to make related both to the child and their own functioning, and make necessary changes in the organization of everyday functioning in order to facilitate the process of the child’s socialization related to school and direct it in a positive direction. The article is intended to contribute to content enrichment of the preventive programmes for preparing parents for the child’s start in school.

AGRESSION AND EARLY DISFUNCTIONAL COGNITIVE SCHEMES AMONG CHILDREN LIVING IN ORPHANAGE AND IN COMPLETE FAMILIES
The aim of our research was to determine whether there are any differences in displaying aggressive behaviour and expressive early dysfunctional cognitive schemes between the children who live in the Children’s village (orphanage) and children who live with their families. The sample comprised 184 examinees of both sexes (children aged 13 to 15 from the Children’s Village and from complete natural families). The obtained results showed that the children from the orphanage are more directly, verbally, and indirectly aggressive compared to children from families. Regarding the expressiveness of early dysfunctional cognitive schemes the results show that the children from the orphanage had significantly more activated schemes which develop as consequences of exclusion, rejection and lack of autonomy.
Keywords: aggression, early dysfunctional cognitive schemes, sex, life in orphanage or in family.

STRUCTURAL ANTHROPOMETRIC MODEL OF THE BOY OF THE ELDEST PRESCHOOL AGE
From a representative sample (N=234) of male examinees aged six and sev en 14 anthropometric measures were taken according to the instruction of the International Biology Programme. The aim of the research was to devise and analyse, according to the manifest anthropometric variables, a theoretical structural model and the relations between latent morphological dimensions. By the use of the component-factor analysis two Hotelling’s main components were identified (on hypothetical level), which were, after promax transformations, interpreted as follows: I - longitudinal dimensionality of the skeleton or ectomorphy has the value of (λ = 7.13) and explains (σ² = 52.04%) of the total variance of the set of the applied somatic variables; II - subcutaneous fat or endomorphic tissue accounted for (15.02%) of the total variability of the vector of the analysed variables. The algorithm of the correlation analysis defined a statistically significant linear correlation of a moderate intensity and positive direction (p = 0.49) between the two extracted latent morphologic dimensions.

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF SERBIAN AND FOREIGN RESEARCH ARTICLES IN THE FIELD OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION
We carried out our research with the aim to determine eventual differences Abstract in the methodological approach to research between our and foreign authors. The analysis comprised 45 Serbian and 23 foreign authors. The selection was made by the use of the random-sample method, the only limitation being that the title contained the following keywords: physical education, school age and preschool age. We applied the following research methods: theory analysis and the descriptive-explicatory method. These methods were used for data collecting, analysis, and interpretation; generalization of the obtained results and results reporting. The results showed that the analysed foreign authors considered more factors that affect the level of physical activity and students’ devotion to make efforts during classes, such as: social status, genetic predispositions, school environment, family environment, the level of out-door physical activities, and eventual negative behaviours. Serbian authors prevailingly examined and analysed morphologic characteristics and motor and functional abilities. Based on this, is concluded that that our initial hypothesis that there are differences in methodological approach to research between Serbian and foreign authors can be accepted completely.

AN ANALYSIS OF WORK CONDITIONS IN SCHOOL LIBRARIES IN SERBIA
School libraries provide necessary support to educational process. In order to achieve the aims and goals because of which they have been founded, they require that adequate attention be paid both to their resources and work conditions. Libraries have to meet spatial requirements, while rapid development of new technologies imposes a necessity to supply them not only with basic library equipment but also with technical gadgets, computers, and provision of all communication means available in accordance with new technological achievements. The paper presents an analysis, performed in accordance with the existing regulations in the field of education, and compared to our national standards for school libraries, standards for library halls and equipment, by-law acts relevant for library science (Book of Regulations for detailed conditions for protection of library assets, Off. Gazette, No 63/94), as well as to relevant international documents related to the work of school libraries (IFLA/UNESCO Instructions for school libraries). The information on the work of school libraries reported to the Library Net of Serbia were used as the source of the data for the analysis. The Library Net is maintained by the National Library of Serbia and over 2400 libraries of all types supply data on their activities.
Keywords: school libraries, library standards, education, normative requirements for school space and equipment.
